The right candidate will be an independent, hardworking nonprofit professional with excellent relational and communications skills. The Communications & Development Coordinator will work in a department of three to raise community awareness and support for WCSS’ vision of preparing children ages 0-5 for success in school and life.

Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Communications & Development Coordinator will raise community awareness and support for WCSS’ vision of preparing children ages 0-5 for success in school and life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The major areas of focus for this position include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Create strategy and content for social media.
Create and update content for the WCSS website.
Assist in implementing website redesign.
Coordinate design, print and postage needs for broadly distributed agency materials
Design, review and edit presentations that shine a light on WCSS’ mission.
Track and evaluate the effectiveness of online campaigns and direct mail appeals.
Coordinate external communications and marketing in collaboration with Communications Manager.
Support community and fundraising events to increase support for WCSS’ mission.
Steward donors by creating timely donor acknowledgements and participating in thank you calls.
Manage data for fund development – including assisting with board reporting and maintaining donor records.
Coordinating and implementing external communications and marketing, in collaboration with Communications Manager and Director of CRD, including:

Gather impact stories that underscore the value of early childhood programs.
Support development of communications and marketing plans.
Write and distribute online newsletters and e-asks, maximizing distribution
Create thank you emails and acknowledgements that engage donors.
Provide administrative support for Board of Director’s Advancement Committee.
Proofread all widely distributed materials and presentations and collaborate with team members on creating new content.
Lead staff training on social media and other content-creation opportunities.
Coordinate staff needs for website changes, e-newsletters, social media and other online content.
Participate in various departmental and team meetings to ensure good communication within the organization.
Tracking and evaluating data, including:

Analyze data from Social Media, iContact, Google Analytics and other tools to evaluate marketing effectiveness.
Identify trainings and resources that foster best practices and grow social media engagement.
Become the go-to person for donor data management.
Coordinating development and communications volunteer engagement including:

Ensuring clear public facing information on opportunities for volunteer engagement.
Coordinating design and usage of volunteer forms in a volunteer database.
Serving as first point of contact for inquiries and redirecting to appropriate department.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field from a college or university; and three (3) years related experience and/or training in nonprofit/public sector communications, social media engagement; volunteer management and engagement or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate is expected to have strong oral and written communication skills, social media/ website/WordPress management experience, the ability to multi-task/manage multiple deadlines, presentation experience and good systems management. Personal characteristics should include a results oriented attitude, ability to work with diverse populations, creative problem solving and ability to work in a team environment.

Exhibits a passion for the well-being of young children in need, and a familiarity with education issues.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks requiring extensive follow-up and timely completion of all projects.
Competency in setting up presentation equipment in various settings.
Knowledge of effective marketing and communications.
Thinks and works organizationally.
Ability to think strategically.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, Power Point and database skills. Ability to effectively and efficiently use email and Internet applications, including iContact newsletter management, Canva, Adobe Photoshop and WordPress. Basic understanding of computer network management.

Language and Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communications skills to effectively communicate using diverse mechanisms/channels. Ability to speak Spanish not required but beneficial.

Knowledge of culturally responsive practices and a commitment to incorporating a racial equity lens in communications, marketing and fundraising.

Certifications, Licenses: Valid driver’s license

This is hybrid position with some in-office meeting and task requirements. There is the ability to work remotely depending on the projects and tasks. Some nights and weekends will be required to support events.

Pay: $43,709.00 – $48,807.00 per year
