JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for recruitment and social media outreach for SER Metro-Detroit Youth Services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Develop, maintain, update and track social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and website on a weekly basis for Youth Programming.

2.       Create outreach materials for SER programming including flyers and videos focused on attracting young adults.

3.       Create Monthly SER Metro newsletters and distribute to partners and community.

4.       Develop and maintain content on SER Metro- Detroit website.

5.       Write, proofread, and edit creative and technical content across media platforms relevant to young adults.

6.       Attends public/community events, career and job fairs to promote initiatives.

7.       Take videos and photographs; as applicable to SER programming or scheduled events.

8.       Develop and execute marketing strategies for projects and programming.

9.       Ensure creative marketing materials undergo regular review and adhere to SER Metro’s guidelines.

10.   Work closely with Youth Services Teams to promote scheduled events.

11.   Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

1.       Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a preferred major in marketing/communications (or liberal arts with relevant experience).

2.       Minimum 2-4 years’ experience as a content creator or copywriter, preferably focused on product or content creation via social media.

3.       Experience with digital publishing and generating traffic and leads for new business, preferably for a non-profit.

4.       Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress, Canva, Adobe,)

5.       Portfolio of published articles.

6.       Excellent writing and editing skills in English, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to details.

7.       Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish or English/Arabic preferred.

8.       An ability to fact-check long-form content pieces.

9.       Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with young people.

10.   Understanding of the issues facing young people in today’s society.

11.   Strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program, to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community.

12.   Ability to relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people.

13.   Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative and persistence as well as a background in communications/campaign strategy.

14.   Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with staff, participants and partner agencies.

15.   Strong prioritizing, organization, and project management skills.

16.   Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation in order to travel to off-site locations/events.

17.   Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (evenings/weekends).

18.   Familiar with local Detroit youth landscape and able to build and maintain a network

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Although this role is largely sedentary, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move Audio/Visual and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for various events/activities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, and frequently use hands and to talk or hear. Some filing may be required which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, move office equipment and bend or stand as necessary.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  – The noise level in the work environment is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
