About Science is Elementary

Founded in 2008, Science is Elementary (SiE) is a non-profit whose mission is to provide inspiring, innovative, high-quality science experiences to the preschool and elementary school children who need them most. We envision a world where everyone is empowered to better the world through science and scientific thinking.

Our multifaceted program is experiencing rapid growth  and has grown to national impact. Last year we served over 53,000 underrepresented students and their families, primarily in California, and also in Michigan, North Carolina, and Cardiff, Wales. In Q1 2024, we will start programs in NYC.

We live our values: Science is Awesome, Science is for Everyone, Science is Everywhere. We engage students in fun hands-on experiments and science conversations, and teachers in meaningful professional learning that inspires them to teach more science in their classrooms. We recruit diverse and talented volunteers, staff, and board members, who reflect the communities we serve. We use everyday materials and support family science with Science is for Me!
