RMPM’s Philanthropy Officer, Planned Giving is a seasoned fundraising professional responsible for cultivating and soliciting a full range of planned gifts primarily from RMPM’s over 90,000 statewide members. The Officer will secure and be knowledgeable of outright gifts of appreciated assets, life income gifts such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, and testamentary gift plans such as bequests and life insurance gifts. This position will maintain a portfolio of gift-planning donors and prospects, while also managing RMPM’s planned giving program and strategy in collaboration with the VP of Philanthropy. The position will be responsible for a $1 million + revenue goal.

Partnering with cross-departmental colleagues to develop strategies that deepen relationships and donor engagement, and mentoring colleagues on planned giving fundraising best practices to strengthen philanthropic relationships and advance RMPM’s top priorities is an important part of the position. The Officer will serve as a close partner and key resource for other philanthropy team members to solicit and close planned gifts. A key responsibility of the role is possessing a strong capacity for developing relationships with gift planning prospects as well as their advisors and family members, cultivating and close complex gift plans, as well as conceiving and implementing customized strategic cultivation and solicitation plans for each prospect.

The role works closely with the VP of Philanthropy to drive the major and planned gift strategy, increase annual revenue, identify new sources for individual giving support, and partner in creating a culture of philanthropy at Rocky Mountain Public Media. The Officer will also partner with VP of Philanthropy in managing the planned giving budget.



45%–Manage a portfolio of planned gift donors and prospects and develop philanthropic proposals in support of RMPM’s strategic priorities; responsible for planned giving $1M+ revenue goal.
50%–Manage planned giving program, including all marketing materials and collateral; partner with Philanthropy team on donor engagement and program strategy
5%– Partner with the VP of Philanthropy in the management of planned giving budget and organization-wide funding needs.


Develop and implement strategies to grow the planned gift program; collaborate with VP of Philanthropy on new revenue opportunities and planned gift strategy.
Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects for general operating and programmatic support resulting in $1M or more annual revenue from their personal portfolio and in collaboration with other colleagues; maintain strategic communication with prospects and donors and document moves management activities in CRM database.
Oversee the RMPM Legacy Society and is responsible for inviting donors to become part of the group by cultivating and soliciting a full range of planned gifts, including bequests (signed and verbal), life income gifts such as charitable gift annuities and testamentary gift plans such as bequests and life insurance gifts.
Maintain Rocky Mountain Public Media Legacy Society by planning and implementing annual planned giving and loyal donor breakfast, maintain quarterly on-air testimony, draft PG newsletter on quarterly basis, keep PG website up to date in collaboration with Crescendo and maintain up-to-date PG marketing materials.
Design and implement comprehensive plan for increasing planned giving opportunities, including retention and acquisition strategies including planned giving acquisition mailings and/or emails.
Create compelling proposals that deepen partnership opportunities and lead to increased revenue.
Collaborate with Executive Leadership team, Board of Directors, volunteers and professional development staff to facilitate successful donor development and results.
Serve as partnership strategist and collaborate with cross-departmental colleagues to advance, deepen and maximize philanthropic funding relationships, and provide strategy support for increased donor engagement and retention. Mentor colleagues on planned giving fundraising best practices, effectively design and execute planned giving strategies to strengthen philanthropic relationships and advance RMPM’s top priorities.
Educate Philanthropy team on gift planning techniques, and support colleagues in structuring and successfully closing gifts involving complex assets.
Meet monthly and quarterly benchmarks and goals based on activity with prospects/donors and dollars raised.
Works collaboratively with others to solve problems, achieve common goals, and positive results. Listens to others and values opinions.
Maintain strong relationship with cross-departmental colleagues to stay apprised of local programming and national content, to inform proposals and elevate gift conversations.
Represent RMPM in the community and actively participate in local advisory boards, networking and professional development opportunities, such as AFP and CPGR.
Create and implement team events.
Performs other tasks as assigned and/or required.


Minimum 7 years of experience in sales and/or fundraising is necessary.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is required.
Must have a successful track record of closing five and six-figure or more major and planned gifts with complex assets.
Proven knowledge and understanding of gift planning techniques and best practices and familiarity with the long-term nature of gift planning.
Demonstrated ability providing exceptional customer service to donors and community stakeholders. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally and productively with people at all levels.
Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills; great attention to detail; the ability to process and maintain confidential information; and develop strong relationships with both internal and external constituencies to promote a positive collaborative spirit across the organization’s network.
Experience with donor management software experience is required (i.e., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge etc.).
Demonstrated experience with prospect research and identifying and qualifying major and planned gift donors.
Highly proficient and demonstrated knowledge and experience with Office 365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other Microsoft apps such as SharePoint is required.
Must be able to work both independently and as a collaborative and productive team member.
Must possess exceptional time management, decision making and organizational skills.

Experience with crafting successful gift proposals from individuals.
Strong portfolio management skills with a demonstrated experience in identifying and qualifying major and planned gift donors.
Excellent and proven project management skills with a history of managing complex projects, delivering quality work on time and within budgetary guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a strong coach and mentor to other fundraising professionals and to foster an inclusive, collaborative, innovative, and transparent culture founded on deep mutual respect.
Budget management experience.
