Another Source’s client, Pomona College, is recruiting an Associate Director of Prospect Research to join their Advancement team. In this role, you will lead a growing research team of two to support fundraising success for the entire Advancement team. You will work a hybrid schedule of three days on site and two days remote in Pomona, CA.

What you will be doing:
As the Associate Director of Prospect Research, you will conceptualize and develop a proactive prospect strategy to support fundraising objectives for Pomona College. In this role, you will serve as the day-to-day research lead and supervise a growing team of research professionals while ensuring efficient, proactive, and precise information output by the research team. You will utilize your relationship building skills to work in partnership with fundraisers throughout the gift cycle and provide strategic recommendations, research, procedural and other support, as appropriate.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $85,000 – $91,000.
How you will spend your time:
Individually and as a team, validate, analyze, and document biographical and financial information to assess a prospect’s wealth capacity, affinity, and propensity to make a philanthropic gift to the College. Research and prepare high quality, in-depth prospect research. Deliver information that supports campaign priorities and key initiatives. Review news alerts, publications, and other information sources to summarize complex biographical, business, and financial data, while adhering to APRA’s ethics guidelines.
In partnership with the Director and Assistant Director of Relationship Management, support the ongoing design, enhancement, and implementation of the prospect pipeline, develop strategies for growth, and assessment of prospect readiness for Campaign planning.
Develop and manage procedures for systematical collection of information, evaluation of philanthropic potential of prospects, and the integration of information gathered into the Advancement CRM.
In partnership with all Advancement teams including Development, provide system-wide leadership of prospect identification and portfolio development, development of strategies to expand and retain a pool of philanthropic and engaged constituents.
Design and envision reporting tools and user interfaces to effectively leverage prospect data. In partnership with technology teams, develop reports/dashboards to track activity and ensure optimal portfolio and prospect pool management.
Build productive and collaborative working relationships with fundraisers. Support fundraisers’ success, implement best practices and ensure all prospect management and research is consistently produced and delivered to meet the College’s needs for campaign priorities and key initiatives. Serve as a partner and a resource for fundraisers in portfolio and proposal management and in creating strategies to achieve goals. Participate in quarterly portfolio reviews, monthly fundraiser check-ins, and strategy sessions.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
4+ years’ experience in fundraising with strong research, relationship building, and communication skills.
Understanding of wealth and biographical indicators and portfolio management processes from information discovery to compilation and sharing, through referrals, and to transfers of portfolios, and retirement of prospects
Ability to define team goals, demonstrate initiative and independent decision-making and judgment in the handling of confidential and sensitive material.
Demonstrated effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a diverse group of employees, volunteers and stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds. Must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact, and a keen eye for detail.
Strong understanding and competency with CRM, relational databases, various advancement technologies and their relationship with research, reporting, and other outputs. Experience with associated professional software (such as, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Evertrue, Cognos, prospect research tools, is preferred.
Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s annual goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics. Demonstrated ability to instill the same level of excellence for direct reports.
Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College’s liberal arts environment.
Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.
A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s preferred.
A minimum of 4 years of advancement experience or related field at an academic institution is preferred.
Higher education fundraising experience preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
