Manager, Consulting  – April 2022

Position Reports to: Director, Consulting
Location: Remote or based out of any one of NFF’s office locations (Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, and Philadelphia)
Department: Consulting

The COVID crisis and the uprising for racial justice have shone national light on both the urgent work required to build a more just and vibrant society for all Americans and the potential for positive action when our communities mobilize. In most cases, these efforts are spearheaded by nonprofits, community organizations, and their heroic staff who deliver essential services like affordable housing, social justice advocacy, health, youth development, and the arts. Yet these nonprofits and the communities they support operate within a flawed, inequitable funding system that controls their access to resources, impeding their ability to make a difference.

Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) is setting out to change that. We know that nonprofit leaders have power when they have access to capital and financial knowledge. Our strategy focuses on helping to shift that power by changing funding and financing practices so more money flows equitably and with less restriction to community-centered organizations led by and serving people of color, so they can be the drivers of their own change.

About the Opportunity:
NFF’s Consulting team works with nonprofit organizations, funders, coalitions, networks and other mission-driven partners to address issues of finance within the nonprofit system. The team engages most often with cohorts of nonprofit leaders who are at an inflection point in their organization’s journey and experiencing tremendous change and systemic inequities. We support these leaders by being a thought partner, providing advice on ways to build financial strength, and informing decision-making through analysis. We believe we can only succeed when recognizing and complementing the organization’s unique strengths, aspirations, and values.

We provide customized consulting to thousands of organizations throughout the country. In 2021, NFF provided one-on-one support to over 200 organizations, with the goal of helping to build their capacity and sustainability as they work to create a more just and vibrant society.

NFF is looking to fill multiple consulting positions at the Manager level. This role will work both independently and collaboratively to implement initiatives, deliver workshops and webinars, and engage with partners. Managers lead our core client consulting engagements, present NFF’s core messages through workshops and webinars, lead standard initiatives, build and hold relationships with external partners, and support complex initiatives that require thoughtful customization. The Consulting department is a close-working national team that values growth and feedback. Managers will be part of a team where all team members support and mentor their colleagues in program delivery, financial analysis, and initiative management.

This position can be remote or based out of any one of NFF’s office locations which are in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, and Philadelphia. Our offices have re-opened, and staff can opt into in-person work.

This position is a national position. When safe to do so, travel is expected and could potentially account for up to 40% of the Manager’s time. NFF has taken a cautious approach throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and, as of this job posting, is not requiring any staff to travel.

The Manager, Consulting will report to the Director, Consulting.
