NAPAWF is the only organization focused on building power with AAPI women and girls to influence critical decisions that affect our lives, our families and our communities. Using a reproductive justice framework, we elevate AAPI women and girls to impact policy and drive systemic change in the United States.

NAPAWF was founded in 1996 to realize the vision of 100 AAPI women who recognized the need for an organization that would amplify AAPI women’s stories and experiences. Being seen and heard in the public narrative gives us the power to shape the policy and cultural change needed to gain agency over our lives, families, and communities.

Today, we are mobilizing and building power in cities across the United States to create social, political, and economic change for AAPI women and girls. We also show up in solidarity for other women of color who are experiencing injustice and harms of oppression and marginalization.

We use the Reproductive Justice lens to intersectionally address three core issues:

POSITION OVERVIEW

NAPAWF is seeking a seasoned, independent, and entrepreneurial community organizer in Houston, Texas. The Texas Organizing Manager is responsible for growing our base & organizational capacity in Texas, and supporting our Texas chapter leadership in building relationships with a broad array of nonprofit organizations, faith-based leadership, and community members centered on building power for AAPI women and girls around a reproductive justice agenda. The Texas Organizing Manager will be responsible for training local leadership and working with them to drive our voter engagement work and develop strong local and national campaigns. This position will also supervise and mentor all program staff in Texas and reports to the National Campaign & Membership Director.

An ideal candidate will have a strong track record of community organizing and commitment to social justice with a proven ability to juggle multiple projects at once, build strong coalitions, and mobilize grassroots leadership. The Texas Organizing Manager must be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and able to handle a unique and dynamic workload.

POSITION DUTIES

The Texas Organizing Manager is responsible for the following:

  • Provides the strategic vision for work in Texas, to successfully build a strong and powerful base of AAPI women and girls directly impacted by reproductive injustice in Texas at the city and state level and at the national level
  • Be a strategic thinker and be responsible for understanding the interests and needs among the diverse AAPI communities in Texas through landscape scans and one-on-ones with key partners and local leaders, in order to shape the organizing strategy
  • Provide strategic leadership by identifying organizing campaign opportunities in the local and state level, and develop and design strategic campaign plans and connecting local campaigns to federal campaigns in a strategic way
  • Hire, supervise, support, and mentor the Texas Organizer and other Texas-based staff in designing outreach and work plans, and other work-related activities
  • Build coalition with AAPI & ally organizations around a local AAPI reproductive justice agenda that is channeled through distinct and creative campaigns that catalyze political, social, and cultural change
  • Develop leadership of local chapter members to be leaders in the reproductive justice movement and in the AAPI community in Texas
  • Cultivates and holds new and existing relationships with key players in the state to advance the vision and mission of NAPAWF, and also within various coalitions and reproductive justice tables in Texas
  • Help the organization procure funding for Texas state program funds, including prospecting, writing concept papers, and assisting the development staff with reports
  • Provide thought leadership to the NAPAWF Field Team
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship-building, are result-oriented, and have strong project management skills. You should have:

  • At least 3 years of voter engagement, union, and/or mobilization campaign experience
  • Strategic leadership skills that are demonstrated in creative, solutions-oriented thinking and leaderships and ability to always connect day-to-day with the big picture
  • A strong commitment to the issues of AAPI and/or immigrant women and girls, health, social justice and human rights
  • A demonstrated commitment to excellence, and a history of getting things done even in the face of obstacles
  • Strong organizational, communication, and people management skills
  • Openness to learning and working within a small, dynamic, and growing organization
  • Experience in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse group of people, with a history of moving them to achieve a common goal
  • Experience in campaign planning and handling multiple projects at a time
  • Experience in leading trainings or in workshop facilitation — generally strong people skills, and comfort presenting to large groups

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary for this position is $55,000-65,000 commensurate with experience. A highly competitive benefits package includes a 401k plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance. NAPAWF’s medical plan is covered by NAPAWF at 100% for employee and dependents with no out of pocket costs, including prescription drugs costs. Qualified dependents may also be covered. NAPAWF also offers full-time employees 15 days of vacation in the first year, sick leave, flexible spending program options and personal/family leave as well as paid vacation from December 25th through January 1st of each year.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The person in this position should be able to engage in the diverse demands of the work, including the capacity to remain in a stationary position, operate a computer, and move about the office and outside of the office. They must have the capacity to work evening hours and/or weekends as required. Occasional travel is required. This position is based in an office setting and in the field.
