We are looking for a creative, passionate, seasoned attorney to direct our pro bono program and oversee strategic partnerships throughout the Bay Area and California. By bringing your deep dedication to dismantling inequities in our society, strong organization skills, and experience building strategic relationships across diverse sectors, you will be an essential part of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCRSF) leadership team. You will help steer our pro bono partnerships with mission-aligned strategies and practices to ensure we maintain and grow a well-trained, well-supported, engaged pool of pro bono attorneys who are crucial to our direct services and impact work.

About the Pro Bono Team 
Each year, LCCRSF mobilizes over 1,000 pro bono attorneys who contribute over 30,000 hours of free legal assistance—services valued at over $25 million. Leveraging the power of the private bar enables LCCRSF to engage in impact litigation, policy advocacy, and direct legal services across all program areas.

Your Work 
The Director of Pro Bono & Strategic partnerships works in collaboration with the Executive Director, the management team, staff, and the Board of Directors to develop and implement  strategic visions and plans to strengthen and expand pro bono support from lawyers, non-lawyers, private law firms, corporations, and other partners. This role will collaborate with staff across teams to take the organization’s pro bono work, strategic growth, and infrastructure to the next level. Critically important to LCCRSF’s pro bono work is mission alignment, anti-racism, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). You will be part of a team that prioritizes creativity, balance, warmth, and community building on the road to justice. Core responsibilities include:

Essential Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to the mission, goals and priorities of LCCRSF, including deep understanding of and commitment to eradicating systemic racism and white supremacy culture.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in the social justice or legal sector (5 years of legal experience in one of LCCRSF’s core legal areas strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic partnerships and enhance relationships across a wide variety of sectors.
  • Experience working with law firms and corporate legal departments, with a strong preference for experience with San Francisco Bay Area law firms.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop cross-team strategies and implementation systems and infrastructures, including strong problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance and lead on anti-racism and DEI strategies.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically about pro bono services and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships in support of pro bono strategies.
  • Demonstrated management or supervisory experience (minimum of 3 years of management level experience or working in supervisory capacity with increasing responsibility).
  • Appreciation of the values of working cooperatively, and commitment to meaningfully contributing to a culture of mutual-support and wellness, both within the organization and in the community.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.

 

Salary, Benefits, Work location 
This position is full-time, exempt, with an annual salary of $105,000-$120,000 and reports to the Executive Director. Full benefits package includes 100% paid medical + 80% for dependents, 403b retirement with employer match after one year, and more. Generous time off: 3 weeks’ vacation, 12 days of sick time, personal day, Short Fridays and one week Winter Break.

Our office is located on the Embarcadero in downtown San Francisco, close to many transit options. We’re currently remote with our office available for optional use, or as needed. We do not yet have a target date for return to the office, but we expect to offer, at minimum, part-time remote. While remote, may not work outside CA for more than 30 consecutive days at a time. Employees must be fully vaccinated according to CDC COVID-19 guidelines for in-person work.

General working hours are 9am-5pm, M-F. LCCRSF is woman- and minority-led, with 32 staff. We are flexible, family-friendly, and value health, wellness and balance.
