This full-time manager level position will work within our Development and Communications Department and reports to the Director of Development.  The IGO will research potential institutional funders (grantors), establish relationships with representatives of current and future institutional funders, write coherent, organized, and compelling proposals, and create detailed reports to demonstrate to funders that their contributions were used appropriately and with the intended impact.

You will apply your knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach mutually agreed-upon goals and objectives throughout the year. You will collaborate with team members in the organization to identify fundable opportunities and monitor how grant funding is being used. You will assist with other fundraising projects and develop relationships with key benefactors and others.

To ensure success you need to write well, have proficient knowledge of corporate and foundation fundraising methods, and be committed to the mission and vision of Rethos. A strong knowledge of the institutional philanthropy community in Minnesota is highly desired.

We are looking for a…

Project Management Leader. Ability to meet deadlines, manage annual grant submission and reporting schedules, improve systems and procedures for grant management

Fundraising Leader. Excellent knowledge of fundraising information and research sources.  Ability to identify opportunities and make connections in order to advance fundraising objectives

People Leader. Guides, inspires, communicates, and problem solves effectively with other team members and staff to foster effectiveness, belonging and growth. Joins in carrying out the mission of Rethos and organizational partnerships.

Fiscal Leader. Demonstrates ability to forecast, measure, and reach revenue and other performance goals.


Writing, submitting, and managing grant proposals
Developing relationships and collaborating with key internal and external constituents
Displaying understanding and adherence to the organization’s mission
Maintaining proficient knowledge of the organization’s history and programs
Creating and maintaining an annual grant activities calendar
Participating in the formulation and execution of the development department’s annual strategy
Identifying grant funding opportunities
Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents
Collaborating with Executive Director and Director of Development to establish and strengthen relationships with institutional prospects and funders through meetings, site visits, website content, social media content, written reports, and other necessary interactions with institutional partners
Collaborating with Director of Development to compile an annual report, bi-monthly Board and Committee reports, and occasional donor impact reports
Maintaining records in hard copies and computer databases (Rethos uses NEON1 as its constituent management software)

Undergraduate degree (preferred) in creative writing, journalism, English, or a related field
**Three to four years paid or volunteer experience working jointly in two                   or more of the above fields may be substituted for undergraduate degree

Two years direct working experience (paid or volunteer) with grant writing, institutional fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, alumni relations, annual fund development, or similar
Familiarity with the funding environment in Minnesota preferred
Ability to build and maintain working relationships with a wide variety of people and organizations, including within communities that have historically been underrepresented in historic preservation
Experience, knowledge or passion in one or more relevant fields: architecture, history, or historic preservation
Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and technical writing skills
Excellent organization and file management skills
Experience using fundraising software, like Neon1 CRM, Salesforce, Raisers Edge, Bloomerang, or similar
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
