Initiatives of Change (IofC) Canada is seeking to employ a part-time, bilingual (English / French) Communications Coordinator to work 8-12 hours per week. This is a remote position, though preference will be given to candidates who are able to travel to our Ottawa office.

IofC Canada is part of a global network of national organizations that seek to encourage and empower individuals across the globe in their goals of personal change, knowing that society changes when human motives and behaviours change, beginning with oneself. In Canada, IofC delivers programs focused primarily on trust building, youth development, and First Nations reconciliation.

Position title: Communications Coordinator
Reports to: Board Chair
Hours: 8-12 hours/week. This position serves multiple time zones across Canada, so hours are flexible. There will be times where hours fluctuate based on activity.
Location: Remote
Compensation: Range $18-$22 CDN (determined based on skills and experience).


Initiatives of Change (IofC) Canada seeks an experienced communicator with strong written and verbal skills, who is able to work effectively – both independently and with others. This role involves extensive communication with both anglophone and francophone individuals living across Canada.

The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for creating a supportive environment for organization members across Canada who are active in projects related to public service and personal development. We are looking for an individual who expects to be in a position to stay in this role for 3 years or more, and is willing to commit to steadily expanding their knowledge and responsibility, and developing relationships throughout the organization.




  • Create various forms of content and collateral for distribution to membership and external audiences
  • Work directly with board of directors and other key community members to brainstorm content ideas, in line with the overall IofC values and in support of IofC Canada’s initiatives
  • Coordinate French and English translation of all communications
  • Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes media outreach and social media content creation


Marketing and Branding

  • Develop effective communications process and templates to be leveraged via email marketing
  • Drive member engagement through segmentation tools, curated messaging, and email automations
  • Establish communication metrics and evaluate results of communications/campaigns
  • Develop and maintain the IofC Canada website and social media channels



  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective members and key external role-players
  • Arrange and coordinate virtual meetings, inclusive of set-up and logistics
  • Facilitate conversations and convenings, both internally and externally
  • Manage and provide support for virtual meeting and events
  • Develop and maintain relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and others in the organization
  • Manage process to support Annual General Meeting
  • Serve as IofC Canada representative for IofC International meetings





  • Minimum 2 years working in a communications role
  • Thorough knowledge of email marketing software, preferably Mailchimp
  • Experience working in a bilingual position
  • General knowledge of content management systems, preferably Drupal


  • Experience working or volunteering for a charity or non-profit organisation. Previous experience with Initiatives of Change preferred
  • Working knowledge of coordinating and managing occasional printing and distribution of member communications
  • Experience creating channel specific content for social media
  • General knowledge of cloud-based collaborative applications, such as Google Suite and Microsoft Teams
  • General knowledge of coordinating communications in multiple languages
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hosting and facilitating Zoom meetings, including breakout groups and interpretation
  • Fundraising and grant writing experience




  • Bilingual – English/French (reading, writing and speaking proficiency)
  • Content writing (web and print)
  • Attention to detail (editing / proofreading, maintaining membership data)
  • Project management (time management and asynchronous work)


  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO) knowledge/application skills
  • Digital Media creation (Adobe or Canva)
  • Web Analytics knowledge/application skills
