COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
Status: Full-Time; Exempt
Location: CA-Based Location Flexible (Remote/Hybrid w/ Limited Travel)
Salary Range: $65,000 – $75,000

POSITION SUMMARY
The inaugural Communications Associate in collaboration with the Communications Manager with be responsible for carrying out the day-to-day communications messaging on behalf of Californians Together. The Communications Associate will be focused on creating consistent and meaningful short and medium form content, including the usage of social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), e-newsletters, blog posts and other communications materials to help advance and mobilize efforts around the organization’s mission and policy priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager and with additional guidance, support and collaboration from the Executive and Policy Teams, the Communications Associate will be responsible for the following:
Design, edit, and schedule daily communications and social media content, aligned to Californians Together’s overall narrative and messaging strategy with a goal of amplifying campaigns and expanding the organization’s supporter base
Regularly write short and medium form content, including blog posts, brochures, e-newsletters, flyers, informational sheets, press releases, media advisories website content and other marketing materials
Document, edit and render photography, graphic, audio, and video of key events, and campaigns
Meet weekly with the Communications Team to implement and strategize goals and action items
Support the development of social media ad campaigns to widen social media following and implement Google Ads SEO to raise organization’s visibility
Assist with the organizing and filing content of communications materials on Google Drive and Box Cloud Storage
Regularly research and monitor news mentions of the organization
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS & DESIRED TRAITS
2+ years of relevant professional, educational or volunteer experience in a marketing/communications capacity
Demonstrated passion and commitment to the mission and work of Californians Together with a level of persuasiveness to secure support from others
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience demonstrating your technical writing, creative storytelling and communications skills and ability to engage various audiences
Experience using social media platforms to help raise the visibility of an organization’s mission and priority areas
Experience with other digital communications tools such as websites and newsletters
Experience with copy editing and proofing
Project management skills including the ability to meet deadlines and effectively handle a variety of time-sensitive tasks and competing priorities with minimal supervision
Proactive nature and eagerness to learn with a growth mindset
Ability to design and implement communications ideas
Able to contribute to a high functioning and collaborative team environment
Nice-to Have Qualifications Although Not Required
Experience using and creating content on Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro X, MailChimp, WordPress, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
Experience managing content through a social media content manager
Graphic design skills; Proficiency in audio, video, and photography capturing and editing
Familiarity with the policy, advocacy and research space
Bilingual oral and written communication skills
COMPENSATION & OTHER BENEFITS
The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 – $75,000 and will be commensurate with experience. Californians Together also offers an excellent benefits package which Includes full health, dental and vision benefits, retirement plan with employer contribution, holidays, vacation and sick days. The organization also closes between Christmas Eve and New Year’s.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a full-time, forty-hour per week position, though additional hours and evenings may be necessary to attend events and functions. Work will include long periods of sitting and standing and driving, so reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license is required. Time will be spent on the phone and sitting in front of a computer. Some lifting up to 15 pounds may be required. Limited physical effort required. Hearing, repetitive hand motions, sitting, talking, typing.
