California School-Based Health Alliance (CSHA) is the leading voice in California for the movement to put health care where kids are—in school. The Project Director will be responsible for leading CSHA’s work with Local Education Agencies (school districts and county offices of education), supporting the integration of health services into the California Community Schools Partnership Program and the implementation of the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative in schools. The person in this position should expect to work on different issues or projects over time and can play a role in shaping those projects.

● Support school and LEA staff in expanding school health and behavioral health programs through consultation and the development of written materials and tools.
● Work with CSHA’s communications team to conduct outreach to school district personnel to offer CSHA’s tools and expertise in the area of school health.
● Plan and/or provide training and technical assistance for various audiences including health providers, school site staff, education partners, policy leaders, community-based organizations, youth leaders, and partner organizations/school-based health stakeholders.
● Participate and provide leadership to State and Regional Technical Assistance Center teams, and Advisory Councils to identify needs and provide targeted technical assistance

● Increase school district capacity in health and behavioral health financing and sustainability.
● Participate in the development of CSHA’s annual conference, with a focus on an LEA audience.
● Work with CSHA’s policy team to advance school health policy at the local, state, and federal levels.
● Adhere to grant reporting guidelines and prepare progress reports.
● Monitor program evaluation in collaboration with external evaluators.
● Gather, analyze, and share data on an ongoing basis to monitor and refine the technical assistance offered, including written toolkits and resource guides.
● Facilitate trainings and presentations regularly on school health implementation best practices, including at state-wide and national conferences.
● Maintain communicative and responsive relationships with funders and grant officers for specific projects.
● Communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of partners including the CDE, DPH, DHCS, community-based organizations, other COEs, and district and school leaders
● Assist LEA’s in creating linkages between state agencies, regional leads, and schools.
● Represent CSHA in meetings with other organizations working in child and adolescent health, education, youth development, and/or social justice.
● Respond to new trends in the school-based health field and identify opportunities to share new information with CSHA staff, stakeholders, and the rest of the field.
● Mentor a Youth Board member in Project Director’s area of expertise.
● Report to Director of Programs on a regular basis through scheduled supervision meetings and actively participate in staff meetings and ongoing team-building activities.
● Actively participate in CSHA’s anti-racism efforts.

● Knowledge of the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) Framework and the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI)
● Strong understanding of student health and behavioral health needs and how school-based health services can contribute to an overall approach to meeting those needs and the funding streams that can pay for those services to be delivered in school settings.
● A minimum of five years of experience in the school health field, including at least three years of experience as a school/LEA employee.
● Familiarity with current school health best initiatives, including Community Schools, Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Coordination of Service Teams (COST).
● Master’s degree in education, social work, marriage and family therapy, public health, or related field preferred; equivalent job experience will be considered.
● Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
● Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
● Proven ability to manage multi-stage projects involving multiple staff and partner agencies.
● Experience managing subcontractors is strongly preferred.
● Experience working with multiple cross-sector partners, including school districts, city and county government, community health centers, behavioral health agencies, and other community organizations.
● Experience providing trainings and developing curricula or other educational materials.
● Knowledge of the financing of school health and behavioral health services, particularly LEA BOP & SMAA, strongly valued.
● Ability to travel, including overnights, and to work evening or weekend hours as needed.
