Breaktime ( is a 501(c)(3) non-profit working to break the cycle of young adult homelessness. Roles and Responsibilities

Overview: The Government Grants Manager is responsible for overseeing the ongoing management of Breaktime’s government grants and contracts. This includes identifying grant opportunities from various local, state and federal departments, building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders pertinent to these opportunities, working with staff to develop well written proposals, and maintaining and analyzing data and information relevant to the grants. The person in this role should be highly organized, with an ability to develop and manage tight deadlines, manage multiple proposals and reports at once, and keep track of long term organizational goals.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Identify government grant opportunities on behalf of Breaktime within the state and federal sectors.
  • Research, write and submit funding proposals to state and federal agencies using one’s knowledge of CRMs, opportunity portals and google drive.
  • Responsible for managing the government grant pipeline using ROI and organizational OKR metrics, adhering to set timelines and deliverables on each opportunity.
  • Oversees process for all awarded government grants, coordinates with all relevant departments to ensure requirements are met.
  • Making sure all grants are in compliance with grant funding requirements.
  • Collaborates with Breaktime staff and departments to define and detail project funding, working with Operations and Development to produce detailed budgets and budget narratives that parallel the application without veering off track from the organization’s goals.
  • Collaborates on preparing and submitting quarterly, bi-annual or annual reports as required by granting agencies, as well as maintaining and building the relationships with each granting agency or department.
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Attend and participate in staff and department meetings, as well as other meetings, conferences and/or organizational retreats as appropriate.

Job Requirements (Keep in mind: there is no such thing as a perfect candidate)

  • A deep passion for Breaktime’s mission
  • At least two years of experience managing government grants for a nonprofit organization
  • Quick, nimble learner who excels at mastering new skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work closely with other departments to produce the best possible products
  • Has ability to learn or has previously worked with in-depth budgets and data management systems
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with multiple departments and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Understanding need to be strategic
  • Uses good judgment and able to adapt to unforeseen circumstances
  • Excitement for joining a fast-paced team environment
  • Outstanding organization and leadership skills– a demonstrated ability to take initiative, stay organized, delegate work, and support team members in meeting responsibilities
  • The ability to self-asses, set priorities, self correct, and ask for help when needed
  • (Preferred) Experience working with federal (WIOA) and state (YouthWorks) funding
