Blue Lotus Center is a 501C3 organization that proudly provides recreational and therapeutic opportunities for individuals living with profound life challenges on our 64-acre rural retreat located in West Bend, WI. Our guests include children, adults, and seniors: living with physical, developmental, cognitive, emotional, or mental health challenges; who are at-risk due to abuse, neglect, low income, or trauma; coping with a terminal illness, a chronic disease, or dealing with memory loss. Blue Lotus knows the benefits of nature and wants everyone to have equal access to it. Enjoying a natural setting, like a park or forest, have many therapeutic qualities such as reducing blood pressure, anxiety, and stress levels, and it also helps people sleep well, increase vigor, and even boost immune systems. Position Overview

Blue Lotus Center is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader who will actively engage the community and carry out a comprehensive strategic business plan that supports this beautiful, natural retreat from the city. Building a broad and diverse community of supporters for the organization is a must for continued success and growth. This includes building positive collaborations with current supporters while also seeking new partners. The Executive Director will create, implement, and sustain innovative services and programs to carry out the Blue Lotus mission. They will also serve as the primary leader and chief inspirer, of staff members and an extensive volunteer team with a diverse range of skills. Leadership of Blue Lotus necessitates encouraging open communication and collaboration amongst all staff and volunteers.

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administrative, programming, and strategic plan of the organization while looking toward opportunities in the future. Other key duties include, promoting and marketing Blue Lotus, handling public relations, leading fundraising initiatives, community outreach, and oversight of our facilities and grounds. This position reports directly to the Board of Trustees. In keeping with the spirit in which Blue Lotus was created, the Executive Director will exude a positive, energetic, and enthusiastic approach to change and growth management. Essential Responsibilities

Community Outreach

● Ensure Blue Lotus is effectively utilizing current mediums (social media, website, email, and others) to promote and engage multiple communities.

● Cultivate partnerships, collaborations and opportunities with compatible organizations, funding sources, and other community resources.

● Attend and participate in community functions on behalf of Blue Lotus; this may include: local Chamber events, service organization functions and networking, other nonprofit groups in Washington/Ozaukee County.


Leadership and Operations

● Direct the daily operations of Blue Lotus.

● Guide effective communication and strategy with all Board Committees.

● Manage and oversee the programming, facilities, pool system, pond, and overall grounds.

● Cover duties of the other positions and functions / assist staff and volunteers in their roles throughout the year.

Programming and Services

● Maintain current programming services which support the strategic direction of Blue Lotus.

● Direct management of all aspects of the programming from setting pricing, booking attendees, arranging activities, arranging facility needs, tracking attendance, and more.

● Create and develop new initiatives to meet the needs of community and to fulfill grant requirements.

● Assess impact and effectiveness of all programming including regular surveying of participants and collaborations with community partners.


Fundraising and Finances

Steward and improve the strategic fund development efforts including:

  • Oversee the grant procurement and reporting process – look for new grant opportunities; track funds, goals and measures required for reporting to granting entities.
  • Continue to engage existing donors while building new relationships.
  • Work closely with Special Events Coordinator to ensure implementation timelines for fund development efforts, events, and activities to impact success.
  • Use donor data and trends to provide new insights and ways to increase donor pipeline and levels of donations.
  • Effectively manage finances and provide accurate financial information, in conjunction with the Treasurer, to the Board of Trustees; Track all expenses and process all deposits through vehicles such as: Excel spreadsheets, DonorSnap, and QuickBooks.

Qualifications, Experiences, and Attributes

  • Sincere passion for the mission including a true enjoyment of nature and the outdoors.
  • Experience working with diverse populations encompassing all ages.
  • Experience in setting, communicating, and executing the mission of an organization using strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound problem solving abilities; attention to details within financial and written reports, with a willingness to serve in Multiple capacities.
  • Ability to effectively engage and communicate with a Board of Trustees.
  • Proven leadership and business management skills of at least 5 years.
  • Demonstrated success in generating revenue to fulfill the mission of a program and/or organization.
  • Financial and operational acumen; direct experience with budget development and management; experience with accounting software and reporting practices.
  • Experience working successfully with a Board of Trustees/Directors to cultivate and develop relationships.
  • Knowledge of general human resources policies and federal and state employment laws required.
  • Track record of successful staff recruitment, supervision, and support.
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant life experience required.
