Richard- you can research loan consolidation more at http://www.finaid.org/loans/consolidation.phtml and there are great resources specific to the public service loan forgiveness program here http://askheatherjarvis.com/tools

Ashlee, private loans do have less flexibility and do not provide us with many options. Look into consolidating your loans with one lender- you may be able to lower your monthly payment that way.
More info on that here: http://www.finaid.org/loans/consolidation.phtml

Should everyone consider consolidating their student loans or is this only an option for some loans?

Thanks

Tim- that's a good question. The best place to go for an answer might be to call the Federal Student Aid Center directly and inquire about that. I (national board member) have found the federal student aid folks to be super helpful and surprisingly quick to get answers through a live person on the phone.

Another resource would be to sit in on one of Heather Jarvis' webinars (consultant that is an expert in the student loan forgiveness program).
