Each October, the board looks to our membership to find new faces to serve on the YNPN Austin Board of Directors. We need your leadership, involvement and support to remain such a productive, creative group. Serving on the board isn’t just about service to the chapter, the returns on service are often much greater than the service itself.
Board terms begin January 1 and end on December 31 of each year. The board committment is two years, with the opportunity to serve in different roles each year. Many board members stay on the board after their first and second years because it is rewarding on both a personal and professional level.
Time Commitment
Everyone has lives outside of their work, including family, so we understand that it is hard to fit anything extra into your schedule. But we wouldn’t ask if it were not a fun and worthwhile experience. Outlined below is a typical board member’s time commitment, less the hours spent performing your actual job duties (which can range from as little as two hours a month to more as time spent varies from position to position and seasonally with events).
- Attending bi-monthly board meeting/study hall (alternates) – 1 hour
- Preparation (reports, etc.) for bi-monthly board meeting – 20 minutes
- Reading and responding to board emails – 1 hour per month
- Attending other YNPN Austin events - approximately 2 hours every other month (Do Gooder Wednesday happy hours, Do Gooder Games, professional development events, membership recruitment events, etc.)
The total is about five hours per month during the course of the year plus your specific job duties. If you are uncertain about the specific time commitment for any specific job, contact either the president or the person who currently holds that position - click here for a list of board members.

Board of Director applications are due by or before Nov. 1. The current YNPN Austin board will vote internally on the 2012 board slate and you will be notified mid-November if you are selected.
