JULIE MACALIK
President

Julie has more than six years of professional experience working with nonprofit organizations and a diverse range of database solutions. Her education and development experience comes from organizations including KELL Partners, Greenlights for Nonprofit Success, the McCombs School of Business, and Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center.
In addition to serving as president of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network Austin board of directors, Julie previously sat on the Journal Editorial Board for the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network (NTEN), and was the former co-lead of the Austin Nonprofit Salesforce.com User Group. She is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her bachelor of science degree in communication studies, focusing on corporate communications and business. When Julie is not at the office, she enjoys listening to live music, watching Texas Longhorn football, and enjoying all that Austin, Texas has to offer.

SARAH RICHARDS
Vice President

A native Texan born and raised in Houston, Sarah moved to Austin to pursue college and the unique experience only Austin can provide. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas and her Master’s in Education at Texas State University. She currently works for the Colorado River Foundation as Program Director. Previous professional experiences from the non-profit and government sectors reflect her diverse passions and range from program coordination and volunteer management and education to classroom teaching and case management for abused children.
When out of the office, Sarah spends as much time possible outdoors with her blue heeler Clover and enjoys running the trail, yoga, and all the fun experiences Austin has to offer. In addition to volunteering with YNPN, Sarah is a member of several informal science and environmental educator organizations and is active with the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce. She currently provides consulting services in corporate volunteerism and fundraising to non-profit and for-profit organizations including Electronic Arts and Lucky Mutts Dog Rescue.
MARY RIGGS
Treasurer
Mary works for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission Office of Early Childhood Coordination. There she oversees home visitation and child care initiatives for young children and their families. Mary is also currently a volunteer with BookSpring and serves on its program committee, assisting with program planning and evaluation. Prior to moving to Austin, Maryworked in the out-of-school time field developing and evaluating academic programs for children in urban communities across the US. Mary is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Social Work. She also earned her MBA from Boston University. When not working or volunteering, Mary enjoys watching Michigan football (Go Blue!) and Boston Red Sox games and exploring Austin, the country, and the globe with her fiancé.
SARAH FORBES
Secretary
Originally from a small town in Texas, Sarah moved away from the state to attend Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where she graduated with honors in politics. Enamored of the changing seasons, she stayed there until being selected as a Kiva Fellow in 2008, when she moved to Kenya and then Tanzania in order to volunteer with Kiva.org’s partner microfinance institutions. After Sarah’s Kiva fellowship, she returned to Tanzania to work as a business development consultant on a solar project initially funded by the World Bank’s Lighting Africa grant program. Now in Austin, Sarah volunteers at American Gateways, an organization providing legal services to immigrants and refugees, and is a member of the YWA, in addition to her YNPN role. She is dedicated to community development programs and social justice, enjoys flipping through cookbooks, thinks skunks are cute, and always craves more travel adventures.
EMILY FRASER
Communications Co-Chair
Emily is a Communications Specialist at CLEAResult, an energy efficiency consulting firm based in Austin, TX. Previously, she worked in the fundraising department at Capital Area Food Bank. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications-Public Relations with a minor in dance from Texas State University. In addition to serving on the YNPN Austin Board of Directors, she is an active member of the Association for Women in Communications.
Emily spends her free time eating as much trailer food as she can and Yelping about it, frolicking in the Austin modern dance scene, and exploring the outdoors with her husband and two Chihuahuas.
In 2011, Emily received the Anne Durrum Robinson Creative Initiative Award and the Association for Women in Communications National Star Award for her social media campaign for AWC Austin.

SOPHIA CHECA
Communications Co-Chair
Sophia will graduate in May 2012 with a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs, emphasis in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin. Prior to attending graduate school, she worked in the East Oakland office of Catholic Charities of the East Bay on the Federal Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP). Sophia received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California – Berkeley. In addition to serving on the YNPN Austin Board of Directors, she is a volunteer for the Texas Homeless Network.

LASHANNA MARTIN
Membership & Development Co-Chair

Lashanna is a community planning professional committed to developing cities that are sustainable, affordable, and accessible for all. A recent transplant to Austin, she originally hails from Pennsylvania. She’s a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and is completing a Master of Community Planning degree through the University of Cincinnati. She currently holds a position as a Marketing Specialist, creating content for both local and national companies. In the past she has worked for nonprofits specializing in affordable housing development and environmental protection and has volunteered with many organizations including the U.S. Green Building Council. When not working, Lashanna enjoys exploring Texas, hanging out around Barton Creek, and volunteering with First UU and Green Doors.

LIZ HANSBURY
Membership & Development Co-Chair
Liz has served with the YMCA, one of the country’s largest non-profits, for the past 17 years in New Jersey, Florida and now Texas. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Tampa and her masters degree in non-profit management from Springfield College in Houston, TX. When not hanging out at the Y, Liz enjoys exploring Austin, playing soccer and kayaking.

COURTNEY HORM
Programming Co-Chair
A native Texan originally from Houston, Courtney moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas and received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Business Foundations. With a passion for helping others, Courtney volunteered throughout college and after graduation at such organizations as the Texas Runaway Hotline, GearUp Austin, Meals on Wheels, and Austin Partners in Education.
Courtney currently works at Any Baby Can Child and Family Resource Center as the Major Gifts Manager. Previously, she worked at the Capital Area Food Bank and before entering the non-profit sector, she spent several years working in Texas state government, most recently for a state-wide elected official.
Courtney was first introduced to non-profit organizations when she completed a high school graduation project focusing on Support Dogs, Inc., a non-profit organization in St. Louis, Missouri, and learned firsthand how highly skilled support dogs provide hope, independence, and new beginnings to individuals with disabilities.
When out of the office, Courtney enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and entertaining family and friends at their home.

Emily currently works at Apple as an Operations Specialist. After graduating from American University in Washington, D.C. in 2010 with a degree in Business Administration and International Studies, she moved to Austin for its eclectic community, local businesses, and nonprofit scene. Although Emily has a day job in the for-profit world, she stays involved in the nonprofit community and enjoys volunteering for organizations involved in global humanitarian efforts. With a passion for travel, Emily spends her free time dreaming of where her next vacation may be, studying French, trying new restaurants and types of foods, or riding her bike around town.

Julie is currently a consultant at KELL Partners, LLC. She has been working with nonprofit organizations for more than seven years, specializing in helping staff members leverage technology to make their jobs easier. A proud Texas Longhorn, Julie earned her B.A. in Plan II and Latin American Studies, and an M.A. in Latin American Studies. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she worked for Spence-Chapin Services, an adoption & family services agency.
Now back in Austin, Julie is excited to be near her family again. As a member of the YNPN Austin Board, she is looking forward to meeting lots of great people and reconnecting with the local nonprofit community. In her spare time, Julie enjoys sewing and looking for new craft projects, watching Texas Longhorn football, and spending time with friends and family (and her little gray cat, Burrito).
